Welp color me amazed. This film is based off the fantastic anime, which in turn is based off the even better manga. The movie changes Light Yagami into light Turner. Which I guess it was they couldn't afford to make this in Japan? So Seattle it is ya cheap ass! Death note is all about Light finding the notebook and his thought pattern after finding it. The book let's you write a name and they die. Of course there are a fair amount of rules for this rube to follow. Also he meets a shimigami, or god of death if you're not a weeb. Again this was Americanized AF.
The best part of the movie is they got William DaFoe to voice Ryuk, the shimigami. While his voice screamed and clubbed me with green goblin, it was enjoyable. Boy genius detective, L, seems to have his character move to fast. Due to the run time, you don't get the full range of his quirky behaviors. Thankfully you see his weird ass way he sits. Overall this movie is alright in a vacuum, but should have been multiple movies to tell the whole arc of the tale. Hey if your pressed for time watch the movie, if you have time and love murder dramas...WATCH THE DAMN ANIME!
