This movie takes place in a world where mutants are hunted down almost to extinction. Wolverine and Professor X are still kicking around. Professor X is having some serious seizures that require expensive medicine that make Logan become a limo driver. Very noble profession. Well Logan happens upon a lady and her child and thus starts the story. The child is the product of a lab, using logans mutant DNA. So she is in a way Logans child. There are little things in this movie that reference the source material. None more so than the X-Men comics seen throughout the movie. Good stuff those were. The rest of the movie is essentially a very well told escort mission. The characters are great and they do a great job of showing ol' Wolvy as a grumpy old man.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie being a ending to Hugh Jackman's version of wolverine. It was a great send off for a person that worked so well as that character. It also opens the door for Disney/Marvel to do their own thing now that they have the X-Men license. All that aside, the trip this movie goes on is great. You get to experience Logan going through some acceptance that he can no longer heal as quickly and the pain to even use his claws. It is a good mix of originality and the Old Man Logan comics. The fact that the main enemy in this movie looks like an early form of Skynet's terminator team, made me want more on that. Just a bunch of guys with robotic prosthetics with no explanation, because MOVIE TIME! Either way this movie was a great bookend for actor and character.
