Altered Carbon

Altered Carbon

In the far flung future we have a world where the idea of permanent death doesn't apply.  If you are wealthy you can get another clone of yourself known as a "sleeve" and if you are to die they transfer your digitized self, via a stack in the spine, into that clone.  The you are on the poor side, you get whatever is available.  People can come back as anyone.  A little girl is shown showing up in an old lady sleeve.  The story is about solving a individuals murder.  In order to do so he revives a Envoy soldier, Takeshi Kovacs.  The story shows Kovacs as he attempts to solve the case to earn his pardon from his past life events.  Don't worry as this is all explained and played out during the series.

The first time I heard about this I was pumped, as it hits those Blade Runner vibes.  The future they constructed is just as weird as you want it to be.  People have blood sports and it's all ok as they can get new bodies.  Weird, I know.  The constant change you see with people is absolutely fascinating.  Kovacs story is really enjoyable as it fleshes him out a bit at a time.  So at the beginning he seems like he is a heartless individual, and by the end you totally get why.  This show has it all sleeve death, permanent death, and bed room activities.  The permanent death only happens if you destroy their stack located at the base of an individuals neck.  Also I am loving the Edgar Allen Poe A.I. he is great.  I could keep going so instead go watch it!  If you love a good sci-fi action flix, well here you go.
