Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter World

What can I say that isn't said in the title of the game?  It is a game where you hunt monsters and carve them up for pieces to make armor.  There is a story to the game and that is following a giant Elder Dragon to see what it is up to.  This is known as the Elders crossing and your hunter is trying to figure out why in this new world it is doing so.  The game give you 4 large areas to investigate and hunt/capture these monsters.  Each has their own strength and weaknesses for you to be destroyed by or take advantage of.  Also, being that there are multiple monsters per area, they will run into each other and have turf wars.  This lets the monsters deal a ridiculous amount of damage to one another and more times than not it will benefit you.  Other times it can feel like you are in the middle of a handicap match.  Once the main story is over you start to see tempered versions (stronger) of monsters you already faced that yield much better rewards.  All this to chase the end game gear that is absurd in very satisfying ways.

This was my first venture into a Monster Hunter game and from what I have heard from players of old, I am really happy it is.  Running out of stones to sharpen your weapon and having to search out new ones sounds like a absolute nightmare.  I am enjoying the multitude of weapons that are available each offing a different play style.  According to my stat counter I killed 26 monsters with dual blades and then switched to a bow.  I then took out 213 with that.  Now I want to try the switch axe, a giant axe that changes into a axe/sword combo to deal stupid damage.  The end game keeps giving me challenges and I appreciate it.  I find myself even going back to earlier stuff to help out people in the story via the online multiplayer and that is super enjoyable crushing those with ease.  I have made my characters interaction sound as though I am royalty by calling people peasants for dying in my presence.  When it comes down to it this game is just fun.  Once you get in high level you know monsters tells and you can end up like me with no audio and just listen to music or podcasts to pass the time.  I can't put this damn thing down because I can't let my palico down.  He is the best cat companion ever with its awesome gear!
